The Kepler 4040 BI CMOS camera features the same pixel size and imaging area as the well-known KAF-16803 CCD, but flexes its muscles with ultra-high sensitivity (especially in the UV), super low read noise, and high frame rates... all at a game-changing price to performance ratio!
While it's not surprising that the KAF-16803 CCD's best performance is with a single long exposure, the Kepler KL4040 does have a better signal-to-noise ratio than the 16803. Even when using stacked short exposures, the signal-to-noise ratio of the KL4040 is still better than the 16803! This results in the KL4040 boasting superior performance and can be used in a wide range of applications.
